Refined cockpit rim construction

Arne Elger has refined my rim construction method (the recessed rim from my building manual) with a couple of good ideas. He cuts the rim as usual, but adds a 45 degree angled cut at the outer edge of what is going to the gutter around the rim. This means two advantages: 1. the top of the rim flange lines up with the deck, instead of being higher than the deck, and 2. the outer edge of the gutter is well defined from the start, eliminating the job of fairing it.

Tne photos shows a rim for a hatch (intended for a neoprene cover) but the principle is as valid for a cockpit rim. Click on the image to zoom.
