A new Njord

Njord in Åland

My latest kayak where she belongs, Ålands hav (the archepilago between Sweden and Finland). Have done a couple of extended tours and am very satisfied with the kayak. Thanks for convincing med to build a Njord instead of another Najad. Presented my wife with the kayak this weekend and in spite of being a novice she immediately liked it. So it seems I have to build another (was hoping she would prefer the Najad so I could keep the Njord...).

I brought the kayak under construction to a boat fair at a scout camp last summer. At the time I was working on the deck which was instructive to show. Competing with Coast Guard shows, viking ships replicas and helicopter rescues I had not counted on much attention for a half built strip kayak, but to my surprice many were interested. Probably one or two were inspired to build.

Packluckorna är frästa ur det färdiga däcket varefter sargar av två lager 4mm plywood är limmade under däcket. I sargarna är ett spår fräst längs däckets kant för avrinning. Tätningen är vanlig p-list för fönster. Låsen är vridlås med kilspänning i form av små kilar limmade på däck som ökar klämkraften. De tätar bra. Jag kan fixa några bilder om du är intresserad.

Du skrev att den är sjösatt i Ålands hav, på Svenska eller Ålänska sidan ? Skulle vara intresserad att se en njord paddlas innan jag beställer en ritning. Bor själv på Åland.
