It can also be payments for customized kayaks, canoes or boats, or consulting assignments in boat design or similar.

Or it may be donations to help with the costs of running the site: webhosting, developing, updating etc - always welcome. Many sites use product placement or more or less hidden advertising - schemes that I avoid. With the exception of a few Google ads on the news and launchings page there are no ads and no consideration needed towards advertisers or other parties. The opinions expressed are mine alone.
