Plans, Thule/2 - 120 EUR Purchase

A medium volume kayak, with ample room for knees, feet, and gear, and designed primarily for larger persons, it has nevertheless become a favorite also among smaller paddlers.

High stability (initial and secondary) means that inexperienced paddlers quickly learn to handle the kayak in waves and that skilled paddlers can keep going comfortably when the weather refuses to cooperate.

Thule/3 – kayak for two paddlers, needing lots of storage volume and capacity, or for three paddlers. A special order from a Danish club led to a modified Thule/2: the same lines but longer (656 cm) and beamier (63 cm) and with a large hatch (40x80 cm) between the cockpits, or a third cockpit. Load capacity increased to 255 kg and the draft to 13,5 cm. To build this version, order the standard Thule/2 and make a note in the ordering form that you want the Thule/3. The plan sheets contain the information needed to build the kayak/canoe. Station molds, stems and construction details are full scale. For kayaks the recommended cockpit size is shown half scale with offsets for a full scale drawing and advice on altering the size. On the plans you will also find advice on how to shorten or lengthen the craft. Lines and construction drawings are in metric scale 1:10.

Om man vill bygga en delbar Thule/3 som också går att göra om till en Thule/2, vore det inte lika bra att utgå från Thule/2's spantmall i mitten och bara reproducera den för hela mittsektionen? Kajaker blir kanske lite mindre stabil och lastbar men borde också bli lite mer lättdriven?

Funktionellt bör det inte vara något problem. Mittsektionen blir då en förlängningsenhet, en extra sittbrunnspod. Men helt fritt från nackdelar är det såklart inte: mina skrov alltid är mjukt rundade för att störa vattenströmningen så lite som möjligt – med en rak (eller nästan rak) mittbit får du diskontinuiteter i linjerna som kommer att öka friktionsmotståndet. Samtidigt innebär den ökade vikten av de extra skotten och kopplingskonstruktionen att kajaken blir besvärligare att hantera.
